The vineyard is on the east facing slope of Mt. Ilice , a spent volcanic crater dating back to the year 1000, covering an un terraced
area of about 2 hectares with a 50% gradientThere are about 8000 40 year old vines per hectare, with a prevalence of nerello mascalese and nerello cappuccio The vines are bush trained using 2m chestnut
poles which also contribute in keeping the soil on the steep gradient of the crater from being displaced. There is a 300 metre chair lift used to transport materials required for the work, which owing to the terrain, has to
be carried out by hand. The harvest takes place around the beginning of October |
