Although the winery was established at the end of the 19th Century,
documents indicate that the family have owned the vineyard since 1635. The Biondi vineyard reached maximum production during the period between the two world wars. This
was owing to the dedication of Salvatore Biondi, the great uncle of the present owner, and to thewine growing experience of his broter Cirino. The vineyard
succeeded in producing an excellent wine and during this period another wine producer, Lanzafame joined the Company which subsequently became known as Biondi Lanzafame.
In the early 1900's, with this new label, Biondi &Lanzafame participated in wine and trade fairs, presenting their wine and winning a variety of medals and prizes.
Casalmonferato 1913, Paris 1914, Lyons 1914, Cuneo 1914, Milan 1914, and was included in the "GRANDE LIBRO D'ORO" (By Royal appointment to King Vittorio Emmanuele III).
As a result of this success, their wine was exported to Europe and the U.S.A.. After the end of the second world war the company experienced a period of decline
owing to the unsuccessful readjustment to modern technology and the new post-war market. However, under the guidance of an expert winemaker, Salvo Foti, winemaking
to modern standards is now revealing un-dreamed of character and potential in the local grapes unappreciated for so many years. |
